How we built the lighting for a 5000-person forum

A big hall is always a compromise between spectacle and a readable picture on the broadcast. We started from a 3D model of the venue and placed the fixtures so the speaker’s face was lit evenly while the backdrop worked for atmosphere.

A breakdown of the plenary hall’s lighting and video scheme: from the 3D project to the final camera tuning.

An 18-meter-wide P3.9 video wall became the visual center of the stage. To avoid moiré on camera, we matched the panels’ brightness and refresh rate to the broadcast crew’s settings.

We split the light into two layers: a working front for the broadcast and an artistic backlight for depth. This approach gives a picture that looks equally good from the hall and on air.
